What this browser tool can and can’t see +
Only the files you explicitly select. Folder selection uses the browser’s folder picker; support varies by device. Folder drops are not supported. Individual file selections may show filenames only; folder selections preserve relative paths. Selecting again replaces the current collection.
There is no access to your whole drive, system folders, or Photos library. No similarity detection, hidden-file guarantee, background scheduled scanning, persistent file handles, or automatic deletion. Files and decisions stay in this tab’s memory and are cleared on reload. Your file contents and paths are not uploaded, logged, or sent to analytics by this tool. The hosting service receives ordinary website requests.
Large scans take time and use your device’s CPU. Keep the tab open. If a file becomes unreadable, it is excluded from duplicate groups and shown in the report. Repeated selections of the same underlying file can look like separate copies: select a collection once and verify paths yourself. Exported reports include selected relative paths, hashes and decisions; store them carefully. SHA-256-only matches have a theoretical collision risk; use byte confirmation for the strongest check.
Streaming hashing uses the locally bundled MIT-licensed @noble/hashes 2.4.0. No remote scripts, fonts, or AI services.
